Doughnuts

Recipe for Doughnut

Doughnut is a very common snack in many countries. It could be eaten as a snack during a break at work, a small get-together and now, at anytime you wish- after you learn how to make your own doughnut.

Ingredients for making doughnuts.

Flour
Yeast
Milk
Sugar
Butter
Salt
Eggs
Oil

PREPARATION

In a small bowl or glass cup, add milk.

If you can't get evaporated milk you can substitute it with the powdered milk which you'd dissolve with some water (preferably warm).

Add a teaspoon of sugar and stir to dissolve, then sprinkle over the yeast and leave aside in a warm place until foamy, about 8 minutes.

In another bowl, slightly bigger, put some flour and salt and mix together.

Then in a large bowl, add the sugar, butter, eggs and mix them together .

Pour in the yeast mixture, stir to combine.
Add in the flour and salt into the large bowl, stirring until a shaggy/sticky dough forms.

Transfer to a lightly floured surface and knead until elastic.

Keep adding more flour a teaspoon at a time if needed, about 5 minutes.

Form into a tight ball then place dough in a slightly oiled bowl and cover with a clean dish towel.

Let dough rise in a warm spot in your kitchen until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

Cut your doughnuts into well formed circles.

Cook doughnuts, in batches, until deeply golden on both sides, about 1 minute per side.

Transfer doughnuts to paper towel-lined baking sheet to drain and cool. And your doughnut is ready for eating.

A slightly different process-

Take a  small bowl. You should add these ingredients – warm water, dry yeast, and some flour (about 3 tablespoon).

You could use sugar in the place of flour. The purpose is for the yeast to have something to work on.

Mix them and then put the bowl into a warm place. The mixture needs to rise.

Take a bigger bowl. Put in flour and salt and sugar.

Heat the milk and make it warm. Pour it inside the big bowl.  Add other ingredients – butter (melt it before adding) and egg.

Also, add the mixture of the yeast and flour/sugar.  Mix all together to prepare the dough. It should be sticky at first.
You should give your dough approximately 60 minutes to rise and double in size.

Add some flour on your table surface. Put the dough on top of it and flatten it but not completely flat.

Now you cut your doughnut dough into  circles. You can use a special cutter or simply turn a drinking glass upside down and cut with its neck.

Use a deep pan. Pour enough oil inside and pre-heat it.

The oil should be boiling when you add your doughnut circles inside. You can fry each side of your snack for about a minute or till it's quite golden brown.

Use paper towel or napkins to get rid of extra oil from your doughnuts.

You can add sugar or jam to your doughnut or glaze it how you wish.
