Recipe for Puffpuff

PuffPuff is a very popular snack.
It's the most commonly sold snack in Nigeria.
It is often served along with some other snacks as small chops in parties.
It's enjoyed by adults and kids alike.

You can make PuffPuff at home. It has a very easy recipe.

Ingredients

Plain flour

Ground Nutmeg

Granulated Sugar

Yeast

Water (Warm water)

Vegetable oil

Pinch of salt

Put the flour in a bowl, add the ground nutmeg, powdered yeast, sugar and salt.

Mix all the dry ingredients together with a spatula. Till you have a good blend of all the ingredients.

Gradually add warm water and mix together with the dry ingredients mixture.

Keep mixing till the batter is smooth but not too watery to flow from a spoon.

Cover the bowl with aluminum foil and make sure it is airtight.

Place the mixture in a warm place i.e. your oven or microwave.
Leave it to rise for about 45 minutes.
It should double in size. If the mixture doesn’t rise, it means something is wrong with your yeast.
 It should increase in quantity.

Pour some oil in a deep pot and allow to heat up.

When the oil is hot enough, scoop some batter into the oil with your hand by pressing the batter to come out from between your thumb and index finger. You could make use of a small scoop like an ice-cream scoop for a better formed puffpuff. It should be spherical in shape.

Fry in small batches.

Once the underside of the puff puff has turned golden brown, flip the ball so that the topside will be fried as well.

When both sides are golden brown, take out the puff puff balls and place in a sieve.

This is a way of reducing the oil.

PuffPuff should be eaten moderately because of the oil in it.

If you want something a bit more spicy, you can prepare your Puffpuff by adding a bit of pepper.

The habanero pepper (ata rodo)  precisely.

The ingredients and the method remain the same.

Cut the habanero into tiny pieces and add to the batter(the mixture of flour, nutmeg, sugar, yeast and a pinch of salt).

PuffPuff can be enjoyed as a snack with a fresh and chilled fruit juice.
